The Role of the Assistant Principal
I often get asked by my friends, “What exactly do you do as an AP?” In thinking about this question, I realized many of our parents may wonder the same thing. If you are a sixth grade parent, your child’s elementary school may not have had an assistant principal. Or if you are a 7th or 8th grade parent, you may not have had the need to directly speak to myself or our other AP.
My response to my friends is simply a two word answer, “A lot!” As an assistant principal we are support to our teachers, support staff, students and parents. We help plan assemblies, tornado drills, and do other things to help the school run smoothly. Students sometimes come to us for help in problem solving issues. We partner with parents in helping students navigate the waters of middle school. For example, if your child reports to you that they are having an issue at school, we can help! Sometimes we will get directly involved or will find the appropriate staff member to help, i.e. counselor, teacher, etc. Please don’t hesitate to call or stop by our offices if you ever need help.
