Royal Oak Teachers of the Year

2011 Nominees

Elementary Teacher of the Year Nominee is Mr. David Stafford.  Mr. Stafford has been teaching in Royal Oak for twenty-three (23) years, currently teaching 3rd grade at Oak Ridge Elementary School.  He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Michigan State University in Child Development and Teaching and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology from Wayne State University.  Dave’s leadership roles have been extensive.  At the district level, he serves as a trainer for Drupal Webpage design program and is a MENTOR in the district mentorship program.  He is equally involved at Oak Ridge where he provides voluntary technical training to staff and is a member of the math and school improvement team.  Mr. Stafford’s focus and objective, above all, is student achievement.  Mr. Stafford’s colleagues appreciate his willingness to share his knowledge, especially through the world of technology.  Mr. Stafford is well respected by students, their families and the Oak Ridge staff!

Middle School Teacher of the Year Nominee is Ms. Danielle Masouris.  Ms. Masouris has been teaching in Royal Oak for eleven (11) years, currently teaching 8th grade English.  Ms. Masouris has a Bachelor and Master of Arts from Wayne State University in Elementary Education and English/ELA.  She has numerous professional accomplishments, IB MYP steering committee member and Level 1 trainer and a co-presenter at the National and Statewide “21st Century Learner” Conference.  Danielle engages all learners in her classroom by encouraging active participation of her students.  Ms. Masouris has a vision, clear expectations and ability to meet the needs of her students.  She has an open-door policy with students, parents and her colleagues.  A primary strength amongst her coworkers is freely sharing strategies that work in her classroom.

High School Teacher of the Year Nominee is Ms. Donna Knaus.  Ms. Knaus has been teaching in Royal Oak for twelve (12) years, currently teaching Special Education.  Ms. Knaus has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science and Master of Arts in Learning Disabilities from Wayne State University.  She knows the individual needs of each student, and works to tailor the education of each in a distinctive manner.  Ms. Knaus creates a supportive environment with her communication skills and by mentoring colleagues.  Donna has been praised for helping students with special needs become successful in school and on into their adult lives.
