Royal Oak Schools Recognizes
At its meeting Thursday, June 14, the Royal Oak Board of Education recognized nine employees - eight teachers and one paraprofessional - who are retiring at the end of the 2011-2012 school year. Collectively, these individuals represent 207 years of experience working in the Royal Oak Schools:
• Marjorie Brown, Royal Oak High School Special Education Teacher, 20 years
• Mary Chisholm, Helen Keller Elementary Teacher, 23 years
• Dwight Coe, Helen Keller Elementary Teacher, 41 years
• Sandy Karolak, Royal Oak High School English/AP Teacher, 12 years
• Margaret Jones, Helen Keller Elementary Paraprofessional, 24 years
• Nanci Marek, Royal Oak High School Teacher and Senior Class Advisor, 35 years
• Rita Mercier, Royal Oak High School English Teacher, 21 years
• Deb Nelson, Elementary Art Teacher, 5 years
• Lynne Renkert, Royal Oak High School Social Studies Teacher, 22 years
In congratulating the employees, Cheryl Goodgine, Executive Director for Administrative Services, said, “It is estimated that 31,050 students have been affected by the years of service these professionals represent. We extend our heartfelt ‘congratulations’ on their retirement and offer them warmest wishes for the future. Superintendent of Schools also thanked the retirees, saying “you have made a difference for students and our community. On behalf of the entire district, I say thank you and wish you all the best as you begin a new chapter in your lives.”
