Bulldog Beanery at ROMS (team 7R)

On Friday, April 03, 2009, our 7R team students shared their poetry.  Parents, teachers, and students came together to enjoy student written poetry in a relaxed, Beatnik presentation environment.

Coffee (for adults) and snacks were available for guests to enjoy.  Both parents and students shared their favorite poems.  Poetry ranged from "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman (read by a parent) to "Ode to my Grandma" written by Riley(a 7th grade student).

Ode to my Grandma
Oh, how I miss you.
How I wish you were
Still here.
Going to a steakhouse
With me and whispering
Silly comments in my ear.

You taught me many
Things in life,
Though I didn't realize
It ‘till now.
You showed me love
And happiness,
I wish I could bring
You back, somehow.

I have your Shalimar
Perfume on my shelf,
Your wedding picture
Sitting in my room.
When I'm having an
Awful day, they
Help me see through
The gloom.

Life is short, but
Love is long.
That's what your
Memory reminds
Me, now that you are
Gone.

Shame
To have trouble speaking,
eating and thinking.
Wanting to run,
get away and vanish.
Wanting to
Be blind,
numb
to have no heart ;
     to crawl into a hole and

never come out,

to wipe your existence
  from the map,
the earth,

the universe.
Wanting to curl up on the floor,
to just stay there.
Wondering where I am,
what happened
Why,
and how to escape.
Wanting to change your name, your life;
To feel crushed and completely lost;
Feeling scared to see yourself;
Scared,
of the hate your own image can conjure.
To feel sadness, insanity and ruin.
After through all the obstacles you’ve passed;
You’ll forget and feel glad again
Stronger,
And no longer affected by the
wretched creature
Shame…
