I have also added some pictures of the children working on various activities during center time.  Click here to check them out!

On Monday, after our daily calendar activities, we spent 30 minutes at our NEW center choices.  After centers, we had snack and brainstormed what we already know about dinosaurs and what we want to know in a KWL chart.  From that chart, we chose some words or phrases that describe dinosaurs.  We then made a dinosaur shape poem (which is now displayed on one of our bulletin boards).  We sure are a DINO-MITE class!  When we were done with our dinosaur shape poems, we went on a hike outside and then played on the playground.  The weather has been too good- we'd be silly not to take advantage of it!  After we went outside we read our new Dinosaur poem!

On Tuesday, after our daily calendar activies, we uncovered a secret message about reading at camp!  We then went to gym.  After gym, we had our snacks then moved into centers.  After centers we did Writer's Workshop and then had a few hard workers share their work in the Author's Chair.

On Wednesday, we had Mr. F as our guest teacher while I had a grade level meeting with Mrs. Mann.  The students did their calendar activities, went outside and then had snack.  After snack, Mr. F read them Danny and the Dinosaur Go to Camp by Syd Hoff.  The students then went to the library to check out a book and listen to a story.  After library, the children went to their centers and then worked on the number 10 in their number books.  The children loved having Mr. F in our classroom!

On Thursday, after calendar, the students moved straight into their centers.  After just a short time at centers, we cleaned up and went to gym.  We only had a few minutes after gym to eat our snacks before the Paleo Joe assembly.  Paleo Joe is a VERY neat guy with LOTS of cool fossils and models of dinosaur teeth and bones!  The assembly was quite long but the children managed to stay on their bottoms and were model students!  I am so proud of them!  After the assembly, they went to music for just a short while.

On Friday, we had a very special guest!  Eddy's Grandfather, Tom Dorr, came in and shared some fossils, dinosaur eggs and so much more from his collection.  We were so grateful to have him share with us.  After the presentation we went upstairs to our buddies classroom.  Our buddies helped us write thank you letters to Eddy's Grandfather for coming in.  After meeting with our buddies, we came back to class to do our calendar activities.  After calendar we went down to the computer lab and played the paleontologist game and uncovered dinosaur bones!  After the computer lab, we came back to the classroom for snack and centers.  Click here to see pictures from Mr. Dorr's Dinosaur Presentation today!

If you do not send your child to school with a snack, I do have a stash of treats that I can give them.

In respect to the other children in class, if your child is sick, please keep them home from school.  Germs spread so easily at this age, that we would like to keep the healthy children healthy!  We wash our hands and use the "Magic Soap" as often as possible here to prevent the spread of these nasty germs.

We do not have scheduled conferences for the second half of the year, but if you are concerned or would like to conference at any time, please let me know!

The homework that was send home today is due this Friday, March 19.

Happy Camping!

This week students had the choice to write in books and on normal journaling paper.

When students share in the classroom, we have our friends give us 2 stars and a wish.  The stars are compliments or connections we make with their writing.  The wish is an idea for the Author to improve on or to add.

Please continue to work on writing at home!

 Making Meaning

We did not do Making Meaning this week.  Instead we read several books about Dinosaurs.  The students were asked many comprehension questions about the text (before, during and after).
