Pinnacle Internet Viewer (PIV)

PIV provides parents and students the ability to monitor grades, attendance and any assignment information securely using your Internet Web Browser at home.  This information is updated in real time whenever teachers make changes to their gradebooks.

PIV is currently implemented in the middle and high schools this year.  

Considerations when using PIV:

1) Due to a variety of classroom and instructional reasons, some gradebooks may be updated more frequently than others.  For example, due to their complexity and the teacher's desire to make sure grading is careful and thorough, some assignments may take longer to grade than others. 

2) Course grades may seem inaccurate, or may fluctuate dramatically from day to day, for many reasons including the following:

  • Early in the marking period there are fewer graded assignments, and so occasional high or low scores will have a greater influence on the averaged grade.
  • Teachers may have weighted some assignments more than others so that particular assignments may count more heavily toward the course grade calculation.
  • Zero's (Z or 0) might be issued for missing assignments that can be made up later. This could drastically lower the course grade. Once the assignment is made up, if the student earns more than 0 points the course grade will increase again accordingly.
  • Re-graded assignments. Teachers may allow students to redo an assignment in certain circumstances. Assignment scores and course grades may increase as a result.
  • Updates, changes, or corrections teachers make to the gradebook

3) Course grades are not final until they appear on the report card, so do not become alarmed if you notice an inaccurate score or grade in PIV.  Teachers continuously monitor and update their gradebooks, and so any errors may be quickly corrected.  If you notice what appears to be a persistent error, please have your student bring this to the teacher's attention so that the teacher can either correct it or clarify for the student why the assignment received that grade.
