BOARD OF EDUCATION

JANUARY 10, 2008 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

1,         Moving Board of Education elections to November saved taxpayers $30,000. Officers for 2008-09 are:

            President - Gary Briggs

            Vice-President - Michael Hartman

            Secretary - Kevin McLogan

            Treasurer - Daniel Champagne

2.         A pilot all Day Kindergarten program was discussed. Further information will be available before March Kindergarten Round-ups.

4.         Dr. Bruce Van Deusen presented the District Enrollment Forecast Report. The encouraging forecast shows a flattening tendency for elementary school enrollment with declining enrollment continuing at the middle and high school levels.

5.         A pilot Fast ForWard program (reading progress program for at-risk students) was approved.

6.         Transportation and revised elementary boundaries were discussed.  Discussion will continue.

7.         Upcoming events were announced:

January 31 - Disability Awareness Open House at Churchill Community Center, 7:00 p.m.

March 1 - Swing Dance at Royal Oak Middle School benefiting the Murals Committee and Royal Oak Historical Society

            Next Board of Education Meeting - Thursday, January 24, 2008.
