The consolidation of Starr Elementary and Longfellow Elementary into one school, Jane
Addams, occurred in 2007. Addams is designated as a team teaching building using "pods" as a means of grouping students for the delivery of instruction. Students stay in the multi-age pod for two years with the same team of teachers who are specialist in a
content area (social studies, math, science) and language arts.
The school's philosophy incorporates the concepts of Direct Teaching and Time on Task for all students. Flexible grouping allows the teachers to increase the pace and raise the level of instruction for high achievers and provide more individual attention, repetition and review for low achievers.
