The Student Service Center at Royal Oak High School offers a variety of services for students and families. The counselors are certified guidance counselors and are a vital and integral part of the school program. The types of personal services offered are:
Resources in the School
The counseling department offers a wide range of counseling services for students and their families. In addition to career and educational guidance, additional services are also available which include crisis intervention, conflict resolution, student assistance and support counseling for individuals and small groups.
The school counseling department is often the first access point for parents and families seeking assistance of a personal, academic, educational or emotional nature. Many times the counseling department will involve the services of the district social workers psychologists and/or special education personnel when further in-depth evaluation and support is necessary.

Sometimes the needs of students and families exceed the resources of the school and are then referred to outside agencies
Royal Oak Youth Assistance is an agency provided by the City of Royal Oak, Probate Court and Royal Oak Schools. In general, ROYA provides family-centered counseling and intervention programs. In addition, this agency provides positive prevention activities such as recreation activities, education and mentoring programs and skill building scholarships. Services are voluntary and free of charge. For more information call 248-546-8282. Positive youth recreational activities can be found at the: Substance abuse services are available through agencies such as: Brighton Hospital (810-227-1211) provides intensive out patient treatment for substance abuser. Support is available for victims of domestic violence through the Oakland County Coordinating Council Against Domestic Violence (248-456-8150). The HAVEN (248-334-1284) provides emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. They also provide counseling and a 24-hour crisis support line (248-334-1274). Aid and legal assistance is also available at the Women's Survival Center (248-335-1520). Suggested Clinics for outside counseling. Check with your insurance: Dennis & Moye & Associates, P.C. 248-451-9085 Common Ground/Sanctuary The Salvation Army (248-558-5600) provides emergency assistance such as food, rent, utilities, clothing, furniture and some medications. Affirmations (800-398-GAYS) the lesbian/gay community center "provides services to empower individuals and families, to build a cohesive community and to fulfill our responsibilities in society." PFLAG (248-656-2875) provides support, education and advocacy for parents and friends of gays and lesbians. The Royal Oak Neighborhood Schools Teen Parent Program (248-546-4336) or (248-546-3790) provides an opportunity for teen parents to achieve their high school diploma in a relaxed and supportive setting. There is no fee and licensed daycare is available. Oakland County Health Department (248-424-7000) provides free and low cost diagnosis and treatment for all residents of Oakland County. In addition, the health department offers a wealth of educational and informational resources. Services include pregnancy screening, nutrition counseling, immunizations, and AIDS and communicable disease screening and information. For emergency psychiatric evaluation and treatment:

Youth shelter services, 24-hour crisis line (800-231-1127), victim advocacy, out-patient counseling, and community education and training are just several of the many services. For a complete list of services visit their website. Connected with the Sanctuary is A Step Forward, is a n independent living program for homeless teens over the age of 17.
