BOARD OF EDUCATION

July 17, 2008 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

1.         August Board of Education Meeting will be held Thursday, August 14, at 7:00 p.m.  August 28 meeting cancelled.

2.         Tuesday, September 2, 2008, designated as first day of school.

3.         Three year extension of Yeo & Yeo as the District's audit firm.

4.         Demolition of the old Northwood Elementary School continues. Many items have been salvaged, including the building's columns which will be installed at the south entrance of the new school and the Kindergarten room's ceramic fireplace tiles. The new Northwood Elementary School will be ready for occupancy in August and a community open house is being planned for October.

5.         Recall of three teachers, for a total of 13 teachers for 2008-2009.

6.         Congratulations to Sue Balcueva on her new assignment as a principal in the Utica School District.

7.         Summer renovations in the District include:

• Royal Oak High School's third and final phase of renovation;
• Major road improvements on Lexington Blvd. including a drop off lane in front of Royal Oak High School;
• Parking lot paving at Oakland and Upton Elementary Schools;
• Boilers salvaged from the old Northwood Elementary School are being reinstalled at Oak Ridge Elementary School.
