Dear Royal Oak Parents:
MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) has been in the news recently, and has prompted our District to take a proactive approach to ensure we are doing all we can to avoid the occurrence of MRSA in any Royal Oak School.
Our current daily cleaning schedules are being modified to provide for appropriate cleaning of surfaces to meet the current concerns. We continue to review cleaning schedules and will make changes as necessary to ensure we are providing necessary time, and using the appropriate disinfectants and products to disinfect walls, floors, partitions, benches, restrooms, and other athletic facility surfaces.
Teachers and other school staff will encourage children to wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizers. Students will be given bandages to cover cuts and scrapes until healed. They will be instructed to avoid sharing personal items.
The good news is that MRSA is preventable. I have attached a Public Health Fact Sheet from the Oakland County Health Department. It gives guidelines for preventing MRSA.
You can get more information from the Oakland County Health Department Web site:oakgov.com/health; and also from the Center for Disease Control Web site: CDC.gov.
Respectfully,
Dr. Thomas Moline
Superintendent of Schools
