This year in Math... Our main focus is the algebra concept of linear relationships, including ideas about proportional relationships. Students should understand the relationship of equations to their graphs, as well as to tables and contextual situation for linear functions. In addition, work in algebra extends into simplifying and solving simple expressions and equations. The main concept from geometry is similarity of polygons and proportions. Students will also apply their understanding of ratio in data-based situations. |
What's going on now...
We have learned about operations with integers and fractions and order of operations. At this time, not all students have mastered these objectives, so we will focus on these areas until most students have achieved mastery. After that, we’ll learn about variables in expressions, the Distributive Property, simplifying and evaluating expressions and begin to solve equations. Please practice adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing all types of fractions and integers with your child at home. A great website, www.math-drills.com, can provide handouts for extra practice. Check the 7M website for the extra credit Problem of the Day which is posted a few times a week. Also, I am available for help Tues., Wed. and Thurs. morning from 7:30-8AM. No appointment is necessary.
