Curriculum

The seventh grade English language arts curriculum uses reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing skills as tools to deepen content knowledge. Our curriculum in the classroom this year will involve the mastery of old skills and the introduction of new skills and topics, which include a variety of literary genres, use of the writing process, understanding the elements of fiction (plot, setting, character, theme), grammar usage, and experience in oral presentation.  Your child will be reviewing the elements of expository writing, which will include learning how to write an effective thesis statement, creating a clear and interesting topic sentence, using transition words, the development of details, and exhibiting personal style and voice.  This will lead us to our ultimate goal of producing a clear and engaging essay.  Students will also write a research report using a wide variety of resources, all of which will culminate into a final presented project. 

Availability for conferences and extra help
